Karen Shivers—a “born again singer” because like so many other great jazz stylists, her first exposure to vocalizing was in the church—in a children’s gospel choir. Her parents loved jazz and for a while operated a small jazz venue in Maryland. As Karen was growing up she loved listening to the sophisticated ladies of jazz: Ella, Sarah, Billie, Carmen and Dinah.

“Precious Love”, Karen Shivers’ latest CD, which includes two new original tunes, is sure to build upon her reputation. The scope of her distinct vocal sound has received such comments as: "she of the beautifully warm burnished, soulful vocal instrument, that resonates with the joy of self expression,” (Harvey Siders, Tacoma Reporter) and “Sophisticated is an appropriate way to describe Shivers’ phrasing and vocal color,” (Rick Nelson, The News Tribune.) At a jazz concert, legendary jazz pianist Bob Nixon, introduced Karen as “the most exciting singer I’ve worked with in years!” Karen’s voice and stage presence are warm and inviting. This new recording is sure to turn up the heat even more.
